The Reading for Virginia Educators: Elementary and Special Education (5306) test contains five objectives which define the knowledge and skills necessary for a beginning teacher. Objectives I-IV were covered in the previous section. Objective V Analysis and Application, will be covered here.
An outline showing Objective V of Part B: Constructed-Response Questions is shown below.
V. Analysis and Application
- The candidate will apply knowledge of assessment and diagnostic teaching to prepare an organized written response to a constructed-response question.
- The candidate will apply knowledge of the elements of reading development to prepare an organized written response to a constructed-response question.
- The candidate will apply knowledge of the elements of writing and research to prepare an organized written response to a constructed-response question.
At the end of the unit, you will have the opportunity to practice writing three written responses to each of the topics listed above. You can then compare your writing and review your work against some high- and low-scoring samples. Hopefully, as you continue to practice writing essays, you'll notice that your work is continually improving!
